MISSION

_WELCOME to the The Josephine DeMello SIDS Foundation, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization founded in October of 2008 and in short period of time; with the help from public donations and fundraising events, the organization was able to help many families in the San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Los Angeles County in coping with their grief, provide limited financial assistance to families who were touched by the tragedy, help sponsor education and training for medical professional, and help fund SIDS research. We are here to serve the community in any way we can to help raise awareness, education, and promote Sudden Infant Death (SIDS) Risk Reduction.

Islah Alani Rae Chambers 12/07/2011 - 05/3/2012

Our little angel Islah Alani Rae Chambers infant daughter of Courtney Lee
Schmitzberger and Jorden Patric Chambers was called to heaven on Thursday, May
03, 2012. Islah laughed and smiled throughout her 5 months; bringing joy and happiness to everyone she touched. Her life was a brief gift to us that will live on in our hearts forever. 
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Fofoa Faumuina, Luis Schmitzberger, Tatsha Carlton, Jeffrey Chambers, Maureen Jones-Borden; great grandparents, Carolyn Garcia, Rosario Beedy, Sheryl Borden; uncles, Luis Schmitzberger Jr., Jeff Chambers Jr., Jeremy Vaughn; aunts, Brittney Schmitzberger, Karlena Chambers, Kaylawnie Tyler; and many other relatives and friends who loved Islah so very much.    
The Josephine DeMello SIDS Foundation helped us to cope with our grief and provided us with financial assistance during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers we would be please to have you support the foundations goal of reducing the risk of SIDS by contributing or providing a donation in Islah’s memory.

Come run your first 1/2 marathon for Team SIDS. Ventura County Marathon Training will be training our team to run the half marathon again in 2012! This last year almost $4,000 was raised for our "Cribs for Tots" program, and 2012 should be even better. Ventura County Marathon Training takes ordinary people like us, and over the course of three months gets us ready to run in a half marathon. Last year all but one of our runners finished the race, which is an incredible accomplishment.
