About Us
The Josephine DeMello SIDS Foundation was founded by Yolanda DeMello and Gabriel DeMello in memory of their daughter Josephine Idalena DeMello who succumbed to SIDS on March 10, 2008 at the age of 6 and a half months old.
Since
2008, the Josephine DeMello SIDS Foundation has been providing to
hundreds of Sudden Infant Syndrome (SIDS) families in
our community with educational resources, grief support, free access
to professional help, limited assistance to funeral expenses,
help fund SIDS research, and raising education and awareness to
reduce the risk of SIDS. This access is made possible through
the generous donations of community leaders like you.
In the United States, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is the one of the leading cause of infant death from birth up to one year. SIDS is the sudden and unexpected death of an apparently healthy infant, whose death remains unexplained after the performance of an adequate postmortem investigation including an autopsy, investigation of the scene and circumstances of the death, and exploration of the medical history of the infant and family. Although figures differ, at least 2,500 babies die of SIDS each year.
