SIDS is defined as the sudden death of an infant under one year of age that remains unexplained after a thorough investigation, including a complete autopsy, examination of the death scene, and review of the clinical history. Any baby can die of SIDS, there are no exceptions, although males are 50 percent more likely to succumb to SIDS, and death rates are higher in African American babies than Caucasian babies. SIDS is silent, sudden and unpredictable. SIDS babies appear to be healthy and normal prior to death, victims usually show no symptoms except for signs of a slight cold. SIDS is not caused by choking, vomiting, illness, immunizations or child abuse.

On September 11, 2011, Grants To You and Ventura County Marathon Training are training serious runners to run this half marathon for a good cause. The Josephine DeMello SIDS Foundation is one of the beneficiaries for this event. Please help us raise funds for families who are victims of SIDS and help fund our programs such as providing grief support in different counties in California, limited funeral expenses, education and training for medical professionals, and day care providers.

Each participant is asked to raise a minimum of $650 and receives:

• 13 Week Training Program for all levels to prepare for the Half Marathon
